Last year we raised over $8000 for CMHA Durham to support community outreach, case management and educational programs to our community. We can and still need to do more.
This has been another year of growth in terms of the growth in Mental Health initiatives nationwide and increasing dialogue about mental illness and how it affects the lives of Canadians.
- Bell's recent Let's Talk campaign generated over $6.2M for Mental Health initiatives in Canada.
- Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party has pledged to provide more support for Mental Health in Canada
- CAMH, Mental Health Commission and others continue to develop and adapt services to support Canadians
That said the Mental Health Commission of Canada President and CEO Louise Bradley said when releasing their Interim Report on the Implementation of National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace back in October that "This week, 500,000 Canadians will not make it to work because of a mental health problem or illness. By 2041, the cost of lost productivity due to mental illness is estimated to be $16 billion every year;”. http://bit.ly/20mPsax
CAMH noted in their blog this month that Emergency visits by Ontario youth for mental health, addiction increase by 32 per cent over six years. http://bit.ly/1SepIO7
CMHA National is still calling for more funding to support Mental Health Initiatives in Canada saying that despite the increasing support the systems in place simply to not meet the needs of Canadians. http://bit.ly/23VoXh1
We're still trying to understand the link between brain trauma and suicide and last year we lost another former NHL player Todd Ewan to suicide. http://bit.ly/1SeruyM
Come join us this year as we strive to make a difference right in our community.
